German renewable energy company focused on acquiring and repowering onshore wind farms.

Company Overview

In August 2023, Sandbrook, alongside PSP and IMCO, acquired NeXtWind, a leading German renewable energy company specializing in acquiring and repowering onshore wind farms. With $750MM of committed capital, NeXtWind is rolling up and repowering the large, fragmented, and aging German onshore wind market and in the process, growing into a scaled renewable IPP. To date, NeXtWind has acquired >450 MW of onshore wind capacity across Northern Germany and is currently undergoing the repowering process. Led by Ewald Woste, Lars Meyer and Werner Suss, the NeXtWind management team brings decades of experience in the European power and renewables market. The company is headquartered in Berlin, Germany.

Why we invested

The investment in NeXtWind aligns with our fundamental belief that the German power market requires a significant expansion of renewable capacity in order to achieve Germany’s 2045 net zero target. Additionally, due to significant land constraints in Germany’s highest wind resource regions, repowering is an increasingly important tool to grow Germany’s wind capacity. Through the repowering process, Sandbrook’s investment will both increase existing wind farm total generation as well as land use efficiency. Sandbrook’s investment will also provide benefits for local communities and contribute to Germany’s overall energy security.
